The Director of Data Analytics will lead institutional efforts to launch an academic program in Data Analytics beginning in fall 2020. The Director will have responsibility for curricular design, team leadership, and networking in the wider business, computing, and data environments in the Chicagoland area and beyond. The Director will be responsible to teach one or more classes per semester and should have capacity to teach in a data-related area of computer science, applied mathematics, or business.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as the leader for all data analytics initiatives, including (1) the design of the major and minor, (2) the development of opportunities for ongoing training with alumni and local/regional partners, and (3) the construction of networks of qualified faculty, internship sites, and community partners who will enhance Trinity’s data analytics programs.
  • Work collaboratively to facilitate the program launch, including development of programmatic strategic plan and operational goals, market studies, and program/product design.
  • Work collaboratively with the offices of admissions and marketing to support the recruitment of data analytics students and to build programs that are mutually beneficial for local business partners.
  • Lead Trinity faculty who teach in the data analytics program, including convening and guiding faculty for ongoing professional development and learning.
  • Teach at least one course per semester in an area of specialization, most likely in the disciplines of computer science, applied mathematics, or business.
  • Oversee key elements of relationships with partner organizations that provide internship, case study, and field research opportunities for students and faculty.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities

The Director of Data Analytics will supervise student workers and, in collaboration with the Provost, coordinate all departmental faculty.

Qualification and Education Requirements

The candidate must be a confessing Christian, actively engaged in a local congregation, committed to the whole-person formation of students and a comprehensive vision of God’s redeeming work in the world.

  • Master’s degree is required; Doctoral degree is preferred.
  • At least three years of professional experience or teaching in a data-related field.
  • Ability to strategize and successfully carry out plans for growth.
  • Strong leadership skills, with an ability to imagine entrepreneurial opportunities related to data.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work accurately with detailed information.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including public presentation skills.
  • Experience maintaining a budget.
  • Knowledge of a variety of tools relevant to the discipline. These could include some of the following: data analysis tools (e.g. SPSS, SAS, STATA, R, SQL); data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI); computer algebra systems (e.g., Maple, Octave); relevant programming languages.

Computer work in an office setting is required.

Physical demands related to teaching are required.

Local and some limited national/international is required.

Some evening and weekend work should be expected, particularly as it relates to programming and networking.
