Job Description

The Summer Associate position will be responsible for developing and supporting business strategies to drive organic growth and driving forward market intelligence development within the company.

Duties & Responsibilities

Specifically the deliverables of the individual could be to:

  • Lead and/or support relevant business strategy projects

  • Investigate and report on new market growth opportunities (both within core business and adjacencies)

  • Work with relevant business leaders to establish new business product, vertical, and geography growth strategies

  • Develop implementation plan for execution of relevant business strategies

  • Work closely with Marketing, Product Line Management, and Commercial Sales to develop leading market intelligence and insights that improve business decision making on strategic growth areas and investments. This could include:

  • Developing relevant industry segment market sizing and trends

  • Analysing customer trends and opportunities

  • Assessing competitor information and market share

  • Collaborate with John Crane management and leaders on strategic growth initiatives in the business

  • Developing alignment on business strategies and implementation pathways

  • Supporting workshops to drive alignment on strategic areas

  • Present findings and insight from assigned projects to leadership

  • Provide key details and a structured plan for implementation

The Summer Internship position will last for 8 to 10 weeks and will be based at John Crane?s global headquarters in downtown Chicago, USA.

The Individual

  • 3 ? 5 years of relevant work experience

  • An analytical undergraduate degree (e.g., economics, engineering, etc.), is highly desirable

  • Candidate must be currently enrolled in a MBA program

  • Demonstrated experience in driving analytical assessment of complex problems and translating analysis into actionable recommendations

  • Experience in presenting results and recommendations to senior management

  • Comfortable working with and influencing a diverse group of people

  • Experience working in a B2B industrial company or in the oil & gas sector is highly desirable

In terms of personal competencies, the successful candidate must be a hands-on person who possesses the best combination of strategic thinking and drive to achieve tangible business results.

  • Strong Communication Skills: Ability to communicate concisely and effectively with management, both verbally and through written communication

  • Results-Oriented: A driver with the ability to take actions and implement effective solutions in a timely manner. Someone who is able to manage conflict priorities and deliver agreed outcomes under a time constraint.
