Substation Civil Structural Section Manager

Responsible for the overall managerial direction and leadership for aSubstation Civil-Structural team – growing it in a profitable manner throughservant leadership based on the Burns & McDonnell core values of clientsatisfaction, commitment, dedication, integrity, safety, and overalloutstanding service. Specific areas of responsibility include the following(with others assigned by senior management):
Organizational Advocatingfor safety within the group. Coordinatingwork for the department including making assignments and reviewing performancein order to ensure the efficient, cost-effective utilization of staff. Supportingoverall Regional Office development and resource coordination between GPs. Interpretingpolicies, procedures, and goals of organization to staff. Assistingin the development and execution of the Chicago T&D Business Plan. SupportingHuman Resources on educational partnerships and internship programs. Ensuringteam billability and utilizations goals are met. Providing for the development and leveraging ofa strong Mumbai Office team (or other global engineering centers) dedicated tothe support of Chicago Substation projects. Supportingdiversity initiatives. Recommendingchanges in basic structure and organization of the department to ensurefulfillment of objectives assigned to it.
Personnel Providingtraining, career development, and mentorship of the staff. Promoting a work environment which facilitatesthe recruitment, development, and retention of the market’s top-talent. Recruitingof the market’s top-talent and engagement and retainage of staff. Organizing,leading and conducting the annual performance appraisal process for the team.
Technical/Execution/Production Servingas the technical advisor, providing up to senior-level input and evaluation onsubstation engineering projects. Advocatingfor quality and ensuring the corporate and T&D quality initiatives areimplemented, including coordinating with the appropriate teams to assignquality control reviewers. Advancingand developing department tools and workflows to increase efficiency ofdesigns, specification development, and project execution. Proactively work through corrective actionswhere deficiencies are identified. All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from anABET accredited program. Minimum of 5 years related professionalexperience. Technical ability in substation civil-structuralengineering design. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability toclearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees,management, and clients. Ability to thoughtfully and positivelyinfluence, lead, and manage change. Must possess strong project management skillsand a strategic perspective. Professional Engineering licensure is preferred.
